Miroslav Radman
Miroslav Radman (2006), World's leading scientific magazine Nature published a new discovery by academician Miroslav Radman and his associates. It relates to a mechanism of DNA repair in Deinococcus radiodurans bacteria. The discovery is interesting because of many potential areas of application, as the process could be used for, among others, developing new drugs.

PRODUCTION OF STOONE WOOL IN ISTRIA

In the Enterpreneurial zone of Pićan, a city close to Labin in Istria, Danish company Rockwool, world leading company in stone wool production (used in sound, thermal, fire fighting and vibration insulation)  started in August 2006 with their greenfield investment worth 75 millions €.

This will be their 23rd factory, in a 14th country. Their worldwide factories spread from France, Russia and Canada up to Malaysia. The Rockwool company assures that the stone wool, as an insulation material as well as its production is ecologically acceptable.

In this phase of the project the investment of 75 millions € will be used for design, erection, machinery and education of 130 employees requested to run such a facility. The trial production is expected to start by the end of the year 2007. 

 

PRODUCTION OF WOODEN VENETIANS 

In the Free zone Lepirac, located near the city of Bjelovar, the Italian company Cormo has initiated their greenfield investment, in the production of wooden venetians. The new factory will occupy a surface of 2200 sqm. The initial investment is worth 2.5 millions € and will provide employment to 40 people. It is forseen that the final value of the investment will attain 4 millions € and will have 200 employees. The whole production will be exported to Italy.
